Course Offerings 2020-2021
The courses listed below are offered at AJCHS as semester and year long classes.
Have you always wanted to learn to play an instrument, but think it's too late? We are currently looking to include an Intro to Music Performance class at AJ! If you are interested, contact Ms. McLain at the Music Department for more info!
Band
Band is a year-long course devoted to instrumental performance in the form of Marching and Concert style bands. Students will be required to spend additional time outside of the the class period for preparation and performances. Extra-hour requirements included a Summer Camp program, football half-time show, contests, parades, and public concerts. With few exceptions, students at the high school level will be expected to supply their own instrumentation.
Chorus
Chorus is a semester or year-long class available to any AJCHS student interested in singing. The class covers a variety of choral performance styles, both contemporary and traditional in origin. Students will be required to perform in at least one public concert each semester.
Concert Choir
This is a selected choir, based upon auditions. The concert choir covers a variety of performance materials, including accapella work. Students in this group will also be required to perform additional times outside of the regular class day. Examples of this include sports venues, television recording, local events, and holidays. Concert choir is a year-long only class.
Music Appreciation
This class meet for one semester and is available for any AJCHS student regardless of prior musical experience. The class covers a historical time-line of American music, from the origins of Jazz to the popular artists of today.
